Effect of the Tuen Mun Chek Lap Kok link on Park Island
I recently spoke to a Hong Kong politician who told me, he had it "on good authority" that there would be car parking on Park Island once the Tuen Mun Chek Lap Kok link was completed.
I was not sure what the Tuen Mun Chek Lap Kok link was, so I Googled it, and obtained the following details:
Tien Mun Chek Lap Kok link |
The proposed Tuen Mun – Chek Lap Kok Link and Tuen Mun Western Bypass will provide the most direct route between the Northwest New Territories (NWNT) and Lantau, joining the Kong Sham Western Highway, the port back-up areas in the NWNT, the Tuen Mun River Trade Terminal, the Ecopark, the Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao Bridge Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities, the Hong Kong International Airport (the Airport), the proposed Lantau Logistics Park and various North Lantau developments.
Upon completion, the new route will significantly reduce the journey time between the NWNT and Lantau.
The Project will release some capacity of the existing roads such as Tuen Mun Road, Ting Kau Bridge, Lantau Link and North Lantau Highway, offer strong support to the logistics industry and reinforce the Airport as an international and regional aviation hub through providing an alternative land access for the Airport.
Once these works are completed, it will deminish any current concerns about traffic congestion on the road to and from the airport caused by allowing car access to Ma Wan, and Ma Wan is then likely to be open to car access by Park Island residents.

When will they start building the new bypass ?
ReplyDeleteGood to know. They are already responding to the allow more taxis in by extending the access hours. The link to Zhuhai will surely open up Tuen Mun to mainlanders and that is why developers are positioning high prices there.
ReplyDeleteNot just about letting in mainlanders. Its just common sense to allow Ma Wan to be connected to the rest of HK by private cars.
ReplyDeleteMakes alot of sense. I woudl perosnally welcome cars to have access to Ma Wan. At least if u live there. Already has the road so why not connect it.
