Phase 2 Ma Wan Park. What's going on? Where is Ma Wan Park?
Change is upon us. Those of us who hike around the island will have seen some parts to access the Old Village fenced off.
This is because the HKSAR has announced a land grant to Ma Wan Park Limited (MWPL).
MAWP is a subsidiary of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHK) (who developed the Park Island estate on Ma Wan). Under an agreement with the Government, MAWP is in charge of both the development and then the subsequent operation of Ma Wan Park (MWP).
The Ma Wan Park is classified as "a community project without commercial gain" and the facilities developed and provided are intended to benefit both the Ma Wan community and Hong Kong as whole.
The operation is intended to be "self-financing and commercially sustainable" with any net profit to be generated from the operation should be put back into the future beneficial development of Ma Wan.
Both parties have been in discussions for a long time on Phase 2. The development will focus on the preservation, restoration and renovation of the old Ma Wan Village for "adaptive re-use". Old Ma Wan village houses will be revitalised into an artist village, with art studios, workshops, yoga studios, holistic health treatment business, retail stores, bars, cafes, and food and dining stores.
Under the development agreement, various historic sites, such as the Tin Hau Temple, the Kowloon customs commemorative tablet and stone tablet, and the Mui Wai rock inscription, certain memorial gravestones, among others will be preserved.
Estimated completion of this project is April 2024 or earlier.
The attraction is intended to appeal to tourist visitors, and also be used and appreciated by residents of Ma Wan.
Over 1 Billion Hong Kong dollars has been allocated to fund the project.
I'm excited to see how this turns out and looking forward to seeing it once done.
Time stands still for no one. Although it stood still in the old village for quite some time. I would like to see a boutique eco-hotel if possible and also some marina development for leisure boats.
ReplyDeleteWell be cool once done. I would consider living there with those mile wide ocean views. Imagine sitting there smoking a little spliff as the sun sets over the ocean. Beautiful.
