A request to the Hong Kong Transport Department

Dear Hong Kong Transport Department - please take steps to slow the speed of the buses on Park Island on the road that runs between the Park Island village and the Kei Wai Primary School. I suggest you install speed humps, or a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights between the school and the Ma Wan village.

I am putting you on advance notice of this risk and request here on my blog Living on Park Island, Ma Wan, Hong Kong http://parkislandhongkong.blogspot.com/

PLEASE TAKE THESE SUGGESTED STEPS. IF NOT, SOONER OR LATER, I PREDICT SOMEONE, PROBABLY A CHILD, WILL DIE OR BE SEVERELY INJURED AS A RESULT OF BEING HIT BY A BUS.

Hong Kong Transport Department - feel free to post your response here or email me at parkislandproperty@gmail.com.

I will also be sending this message directly to the HK transport department at their email address tdenq@td.gov.hk provided on their website http://www.td.gov.hk/en/home/index.html.

  5. Dear Myra - Thank you for your reply.

I do not believe it is feasible to have police permanently monitoring this part of the road on Ma Wan.

What I suggest is that you install a pedestrian crossing, with traffic lights, where people crossing between the Ma Wan village and the Park Island estate can safely cross.

Please let me know what action you will take and specifically your comments on my suggestion.

I will post you response on the Park Island Blog website here: http://parkislandhongkong.blogspot.com/2011/12/request-to-hong-kong-transport.html so that other Park Island residents interested in this issue can see your response.

    Yours Sincerely

  13. Dear Fion.

I feel we are going around in circles here with your automated responses.

I have received the same email from your colleagues Myra Chung, Bobby Wong, Mike Mak and Vanessa Kwok.

I will not be posting any further comments from the Hong Kong Transport Department on this website unless it is a meaningful response.

You have been warned. If someone is injured or killed at the location I have mentioned, I will be sure to remind you that, unfortunately "I told you so".

  14. Hi,
not all but part of solution would be to open the access to school within parisland avoiding childs to go near the road.

I think we need call a meeting with parties as the forum is not enough. I'll contact some people I know at pi oc but the subject is not pi only.
Is there a way to contact u ?

    1. I like the idea of access within the Park Island estate. However, that would work for kids living on Park Island, but it still would not help the kids on the village side of Ma Wan. There are now more kids from outside of Ma Wan coming over to the Park Island school by bus, but I think they are probably dropped off right outside the school so do not need to cross the road.

I would be happy to promote any meeting on this blog, and well as host any public comments. I really do feel that if we take the right steps now, we may save lives. The reality is that unless we have speedhumps or traffic lights, someone will probably be hit by a speeding vehicle sooner or later. So many residents can forsee this risk, and I think the transport department would see the risk to if they really came and look a close look at the situation.
