Club 7-11 on Park Island
Just like Lan Kwai Fong, where youngsters buy cheap beer at "Club 7-11", Park Island has its own version of this popular drinking franchise. Only with a few slight differences...
The first difference is that there are actually nice outdoor tables, where people enjoying a drink from club 7-11 can sit with friends.
Secondly, unlike LQF where club 7-11 patrons are likely be be aged 14-18 years of age, on Park Island you will regularly find a table outside the club consisting of Park Island residents aged 40+! I don't know this crowd too well, but they are a friendly bunch happy to have any new resident join them. They can be found virtually every night, at the same table outside the Park Island 7-11.
Attached are some (poor quality) pics. In the background of the second pic you can see the Tsing Ma bridge. I really feel that the landscapers and architects did a great job with the Park Island community mall area, with the trees, shops, walkways, ferry terminal, ocean views, etc. If only the planners who are messing up the HK Island waterfront would be as good as this...

I see that gang there as well. On occasion I like to grab a beer at 7-11 and sit outside reading the paper..but usually not in July. Going to be interesting to see what happens when Pacific Coffee opens up
ReplyDeleteHa ha - well, I guess the 7-11 drinkers will need to be sharing with the coffee drinkers. I don't think any shop has the exclusive use of these tables, so is first come first served!
ReplyDeleteI heard a few more tables are going to be provided by Park Island Management, but am not sure if that is really true or not.
PS- recently I have noticed the 7-11 gang have taken to buying not just beers, but also bottles of wine and drinking these with their own glasses. A nice change from beer I guess :)
Gotta love those expats outside 7 Eleven. I see them often, always have a chat with them when I walk by.
ReplyDeleteNOthing against the expats drinking out there as they are all really nice but you got to wonder do any of them have drinking problems? I mean some of them get there on the 5.30 ferry and then drink each day until past nine. Every single day. Surely that's a bit of a problem?
